Theme Changes in Windows 7

Microsoft has added several interesting changes to the way themes are managed and obtained in their new operating system Windows 7. Windows 7 themes are for one available in a much greater number from official sources than it was the case in previous Microsoft operating systems.

Windows 7 users have the choice of several country specific themes as well as several sponsored themes from well known brands such as Ferrari, Coca Cola or Porsche.

Even better is the fact that it is now possible to create, save and share themes without having to patch system files first. You might remember that it is possible to edit several theme related settings in previous Microsoft operating systems. It was however never possible to save these settings and share them with other Windows users or move them to a second computer system.

Windows 7 changes this as it is now possible to save Windows 7 themes which can then be added to other systems simply by double-clicking them.

The changes that are possible in Windows 7 include changing the wallpaper, sounds, desktop icons, the screensaver, fonts and colors of the operating system.

Saved themes are supplied in the .themepack format. It is on the other hand still not possible to change other theme related settings like the Windows taskbar or the start menu. This is only possible after patching several system files in Windows 7.
